Lake Powell and Rainbow Bridge

We had a great day on Lake Powell in August.

A good friend of mine invited us out on his boat and we headed up the lake, about 45 miles to Rainbow Bridge (one of the 7 natural wonders of the world).

Even though I grew up here, it still takes my breath away.

Of course, pictures can do it no justice.

And here we are!

What a great day it was. On our way home though, we got caught in a huge sandstorm, the kind that make you run for shelter and wait it out. That day there were 27 boats/houseboats that either sank or crashed during the storm. Lucky we were experienced Lake Powell storm survivors (at least my friend Dave and I were) and knew what to do. Still....the waves were so huge at one point that I was getting a bit doubtful about his boat's ability to survive the ordeal. It was one of those fun....and scary....moments that lend a bit of a thrill and a few sore muscles from trying to brace against the waves. Tony was "not" too happy and got the brunt of the wave beating. He will never doubt me again when I tell him that storms on Lake Powell can be serious....and painful. Thank goodness for life jackets!
